Pit bull blog Update - People are nice!
Hi! Daisy here!
Variety helps! | It's been a week since my last pit bull blog entry and I've had some breakthrough moments! As I mentioned before, I love dogs but people?-not so much...I am just very very shy when it comes to meeting people. Even some I already met!! I know, I know, but I just get real nervous. What my parents have been doing for me to ease my tension is that after a long walk we just sit in the lobby of our condo building. I can watch people go in and out, food deliveries, visitors to the building, postman, etc. Mom carries yummy treats everywhere she takes me so when people approach, she hands them treats to throw my way. This week, I took treats from complete strangers! Out of their hands!!!
yummy! | The list includes, door ladies for our building, Janice and Ruby, Gibson's daddy and a kid we met yesterday at Daley Plaza for the Baseball thing!! Go White Sox! I do better with dog owners, especially if I met them already. Seth, who walks Mars and Venus, pet me twice yesterday! I still am a nervous dog but everybody tells me that I'm improving every day, YAY!
I'll tell you what I like to see happen when I meet you for the first time. 1. Don't make sudden movements, Please. I am much less nervous if you move slowly, give me space and get down on my level instead of towering over me. 2. If I seem nervous, just throw the treat near me, please. That way I can still smell your scent on the treat and remember you for the next time we meet. 3. Baby talk, please. I think that's why I respond better to women than men. For some reason, that makes me not as nervous. 4. If I do take treats directly from your hand, pet me under my chin, please. When you pet me on top of my head, it blocks my vision and that makes me nervous.
Thanks, Janice! | As it gets nicer and warmer outside, I see more sunglasses covering people's eyes and you guessed it! It makes me nervous! Mom started to wear her sunglasses in the house now. I know, I have issues. But I'm doing my best to be better. I want to be a good dog! With everybody's understanding, patience and cooperation, I hope to get over this soon and be happy around people all the time! Thanks for reading my pit bull blog! Happy Easter everyone!
