Dog Breed Information
| Breed Groups | UKC | AKC | | Companion dog | Sporting | | Gaurdian dog | Hound | | Gun dog | Working | | Herding dog | Terrier | | Northern Breed | Toy | | Scenthound | Non-Sporting | | Sighthound & Pariah | Herding | | Terrier | Miscellaneous Class | Although one might think there would be an agreed upon standard for the dog breed groups and breeds within those groups, the UKC and the AKC have similar, but different, breed groups, and the UKC recognizes many breeds which the AKC does not.CityPits is not saying either is incorrect, we are just pointing out the difference.
Throughout the site our facts will be based on the UKC since the AKC does not recognize the American Pit Bull Terrier as a breed, but rather categorizes them with the American Staffordshire Terrier.

Dog Names
Whether you adopt a dog or get one from a breeder, a general rule of thumb is to give your new friend a respectable name. Names with powerful or negative connotation, like Titan or Killer, should be avoided. This is especially the case with pit bulls and other bully breeds. We already have a hard enough time dispelling the image. Silly names should also be avoided. You should not feel embarrassed calling your dog's name in public. Remember, the name of your dog says a lot about you!
