Dog friendly restaurants in Chicago

Thanks to all the dog lovers in the city, and passage of a city ordinance to accommodate growing pet population in 2007, finding dog friendly restaurants and cafes in Chicago is not difficult.
More and more restaurants and cafes acknowledge that people walking with their dogs, sometimes just want tosit down and enjoy a cup of coffee or maybe a sandwich. I can't count all those times I just wanted to get a cup of coffee and sit down with Daisy!
Now, Restaurants and cafes are opening their outdoor seating for you and your fur-iends.
They don't always have a sign up front, but if you spot a water bowl sitting out, it's safe to consider the place dog friendly. When in doubt, just ask. Most places are happy to accommodate your request.
And as always,be responsible for your dog's actions and be considerate to other patrons.
This might come to you as a complete shock to you, but...
Not everybody likes your dog!
More dog friendly restaurants and cafes will be added as we explore the city!

Cyrano's Bistrot on Wells.

After a fine day at the Montrose Dog Beach, we decided to try a little french. Our seating at Cyrano's was actually quite private for an outdoor space. We were seated in a separate section of the outdoor seating with a table for 4 just to ourselves. It was nice to have two dogs in our corner without worrying about others walking by.
The service was a little slow but the food was excellent and all the humans were happy and content after coffee and and yummy dessert.
However, aside from the fact that they allow dogs in the outdoor seating area, there was nothing dog friendly about Cyrano's Bistrot on Wells.
We spent a little over 2 hours, the server never once offered some water for the dogs. Maybe I'm asking too much? I thought the dog lover chef Didier would pay a little more attention to the detail. We are used to establishments at least offering water for Daisy. Just a little disappointed.

How cute!

Cyrano's Cafe and Wine Bar on River Walk

I guess I was a little hasty in my criticism on Cyrano's Bistrot.
Their sister location along the River Walk was truly Dog Friendly!!
After a long walk along the river and to the lake front, we all worked up our appetite and were ready to eat. Since Cyrano's on the River Walk is located right along the river where we ended our walk and offers Brunch, we decided to give it a go. Of course the food was excellent but what really made us "Wow!" was the accommodation for our dogs. They had a menu just for Dogs!!

4 course meal menu for your furry friend

Awesome food...for dogs!

It had carrot cake for a dessert and the food was served on a napkin on a tray, all for just 5 dollars!
There were water bowls all over the place! We were all very impressed by the service and attention to our dogs. Daisy loved the shade the trees provided and the earthy surface she sat on, instead of concrete she's used to.
Cyrano's Cafe and Wine Bar on the River Walk is located in the southeast side of the river next to the architetural boat tour docks.

English

English, as the name suggests, is an English pub but with american twist.
During an afternoon walk with Daisy, we saw their sidewalk seating area. After a long walk, watching people enjoy their cool drink of whatever was super enticing so we asked if we could sit withour dog. The answer was YES and the nice server offered if Daisy would like a bowl of water! We decided to stick with her usual cool down treat of ice cubes but we thought it was so nice of her to offer. The side walk section is spacious and had a moderate amount of foot traffic so Daisy seemed to be at ease except whenshe saw a few dogs walking by.

English is located on LaSalle Boulevard in River North neighborhood.

Elephant & Castle on Wabash/Lake

We have been fans of E&C for many years for their traditional English pub fair. The sidewalk Seating at this locationwraps around the restaurant. You and your well behaved pooch are welcome in the section. After a walk around the loop,we wanted to sit down at our favorite pub for a dish of "fish & Chips", and we knew their sidewalk section would be open. Of course, Daisy got to have a few chips and ice cubes. One thing that was a little annoyance was the EL track right above. It gets quite loud. Daisy didn't seemed to mind it too much, though. And it also was a good trainingfor her to be able to watch all the people walk by without being approached. Adams location does not have outdoor seating, Wabash location and Huron location do.

Jefferson Tap & Grill

This neighborhood grill is in a residential/ commercial combo area. The surrounding area is mostly condo buildings,a few restaurants and cafes. The neighborhood is full of dog lovers and you will see lots of them walking. Daisy tooka walk around the neighborhood sniffing every tree! The streets are lined with trees and generally quiet.
Jefferson Tap & Grill is located on 325 N. Jefferson street in the West Loop.
