Pit Bull Blog: Ouch! Broken Toenail

Hi, everyone! Daisy here with a painful pit bull blog entry this time.

Last Saturday evening, September 12th, approximately 8:30 p.m, I had one of my dewclaws broken. I was just sitting on my couch, hanging out with mom and dad when Shadow the Kitty walked up to me. He looked at me, meowed, and RAN! So, I jumped off the couch chasing. That's what we do all day, Shadow and I. Only this time, My left dewclaw got caught in my favorite blanket as I jumped off, it got uprooted! I felt something and looked down, and there it was, my beautiful dewclaw just kind of hanging by the root.
Please Take a Look!

call 911!

I was licking the blood off when mom got some tissue to help but I wouldn't let her near me. Daddy scooped me up on his lap and tried to see if it would come off, but no, it wasn't loose enough. In fear of infection they decided to take me to Dr. Andreas on Monday. Luckily, the quick was intact and it didn't bleed much at all. All day Sunday, I just stayed home. Mom and dad didn't think it was a good idea to take me for a long walk in case something dirty gets in the injured claw, very smart!

Monday came and here's how things went at Dr. Andreas's office.
First thing they did was to use a drop of something to numb the area and then....

taking temp...think happy thoughts, think happy thoughts...

followed by admiring my pretty face

followed by listening to my big heart

followed by...oh, no!

don't look at me. I'm hideous...

It came off clean! Dr. Andreas said my nail would grow out with no problem which was a huge relief to me. A girl can't live with broken nail, right? I was sent home with antibiotics and color coordinated sleeve on my leg. It was actually kind of pretty after I got used to it! I felt like a dancer or something with the leg warmer! People love it when I give them high-five with that leg, hehehe!

Do Not Disturb! Recovery in progress

So, what have we learned today? Kitties are trouble makers and when you get sucked into their evil plots, you get hurt!
Seriously, please be careful not to have your dewclaw caught in something. It hurts!

Until next time, take care of yourselves and watch out for the kitties!

Fight BSL!!!
