Pit bull blog: Hiking in Starved Rock State Park

Hi, all! Downtown Daisy here with another exciting pit bull blog!
I went on a real hike this time, not just along the Chicago River. I've never seen so much grass and trees in my life! It was a little ways away from home but it was so worth it.
It was a picture perfect day! We had the sunroof open, windows down, Rolling Stones in the background the whole drive. We took the scenic route through little country roads with corn fields, pretty little houses, and lots of sunshine!

Starved Rock was named after what happened to a band of Illinois Indians long time ago. They literally starved to death after taking refugee on top of this big rocky area.
When we finally arrived at the park, I was so excited to see all the trees and to smell all the different things, I started pulling mom all over the place which I'm not proud of, but I couldn't help it!
We got some lunch first. There was a visitor center with a little restaurant so we took our food to go and sat down at a picnic table. Mom shared her burger and fries with me! She always does!
After the "yummy in my tummy" lunch, we were off to the trail!
Starved Rock hiking trail was quite expansive with many different routes. I was super excited the whole time we were on the trail, pulling and sniffing.

oh, Nature!

Mom was tired often so we took a break here and there. All those stairs made her legs hurt but we soldiered on for 3 miles! The whole trail is over 12 miles. Maybe we (mom, wink, wink!) can do better next time!

After the hike, we all got some ice cream and headed back home. I thought I had all this energy but I guess I was tired after all the excitement and trail walking. I fell asleep right away in the car!

pooped!

Finally, we were in Chicago. I knew it because the car stopped moving, ha! It was quite congested as usual on the express way.
Back home, the kitties welcomed me with hissing and crying. I knew they were happy to see me ; )

sweet home Chicago!

It was just a perfect day for the hike and I can't wait to go back! They don't allow dogs in the log cabins but the camp grounds welcome dogs. I don't know, though... I am such a princess, I'm not sure if I can handle camping. It doesn't sound very comfy, you know?

Always pick up after your dog! Downtown Daisy, out!
