Pit Bull Rescue Story : Smokey!
Meet Smokey! He is the sweetest little guy you ever meet. We found him on Facebook a month ago and the first thing we noticed was how captivating his smile was! The next thing that stood out was he was in a different outfit in every picture! We learned that there was a tragic background to his fashionable facade. Smokey was found as "stray" when he was just about 3 months old. The animal control figured that he had been there a few days by the time they picked him up. They were horrified to see a big red scar down his back! He was taken to a shelter and, like so many of our pittie friends, sat in the cage waiting to die. Even though he was out of the desert sun and now had food, he had to endure discomfort and fear all along.
Then one day, someone finally came to his rescue just in time to save him from the cold metal table of death. Tyler, who has 2 rescue pits and a little chihuahua mix Bindi, pulled Smokey out of the shelter and Smokey was put in medical boarding right away. The vet confirmed that the burn on Smokey's back was caused by acid poured onto him in a deliberate manner! The meanies decided that cropping his ears with scissors and pouring acid on his back wasn't enough, they dumped him out in the desert to die. This little trooper did not give up!
Smokey has a long way to go in terms of physical recovery but his spirit was never broken even after going through such an ordeal at such a young age. He loves everyone and every animal he comes across. He is out of the hospital and now being fostered by Tyler, his personal guardian angel. Smokey goes to work with Tyler where he enjoys getting love from everyone and at home, he has 3 buddies to play with.
Through Tyler's effort, Smokey's story spread and people around the world are sending him t-shirts and get well cards! It just makes his day every time he wears a different t-shirt from his fans. He knows he's loved and Tyler would never let anything happen to him. He still has 2-3 visits to the hospital every week to have his scar tended to and to have his dressing changed. Smokey needs more donations. Needless to say, as his recovery continues, already high cost of care will rise even higher. Tyler is doing everything possible to give proper care to Smokey with the help of friends and family but as we all know the vet bills and everyday items don't come cheap.
